OUR PILLAR

Default Post Image

Pillar as defined by the Oxford Dictionary is a large round stone, metal or wooden post that supports a bridge, roof of a building, etc.

Let’s take bridges for instance; non can stand without a pillar. But with pillars in place no wave, rain or storm can bring down a bridge. From the Severn bridge (UK) to the Vasco da Gama bridge (Porugal) you will appreciate the indespensable role of a pillar. All bridges are anchored on pillars. With the raising waters, raging storms and innumerable traffic, these bridges stood and remain for years gone and years to come – the pillars are the difference.

As we exhaust our pilgrimage on earth, we face everything life throw at us – some are good, others bad with some ugly ones. However, there’s no escape to life challenges and realities as the hard way is the only way. Our success and ability to succeed depends on what we’re anchored upon. Pharoah and the mighty Egyptian army could not harm an ‘army-less and defenceless Israelites’ because of the presence of a ‘Pillar’ (Exodus 14:19-20).

Our ability to weather storms in our lives depends on He that holds us, He that bought us and He that died & rose for our sake. History has it that the planet earth was not without plagues, epidemics and pandamics, some of which are man-made and others natural which wasted and destroyed millions of human and animal lives. From the Antonine Plague AD 165 to the Black Death AD 1347 up to Ebola 2014 and currently Covid-19 the human race has witnessed tragedy upon tragedy with no visible sign of an end.

Since life has promised never to be smooth or fair and we must journey through this same life, it’s good to remind ourselves as believers of the stuff we’re made of and on whom we stand. As the lyrics of a hymn goes ” my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ the solid rock …, on Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand “.

We shouldn’t turn left or right neither should we look up to a political leader, a philantropist, a scientist or even a man of God but we must look up to the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2), and when we face a faceless and merciless disease like COVID-19, let’s run to the Lord which is a strong tower where the righteous runs in and get saved (Ps. 61:3; Prov. 18:10).

Never give up, never lose hope and never be frightened

Christ is our pillar
